What is a "try-out"?
For the Spring seasons, try-outs are sessions where players have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at fielding, throwing, receiving a thrown ball at first base and batting. Managers attend try-outs to observe and make notes on each player to assist them in deciding who they would like to draft on their team. These events are probably more appropriately called "evaluations" rather than try-outs. All players participating in them will be selected to a team. In the Fall seasons players do not try out.
Who must try-out?
In the Spring seasons players participating in Minor League and higher are required to try out. Players in Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, Training League and LCB Buddy Ball are NOT required to try out. There are no try-outs for any age-level league in the Fall seasons.
When and where are the try-outs?
For the Spring seasons, try-outs are scheduled for mid-January, usually a Friday and Saturday. As those dates approach you will be reminded by mail, e-mail and/or verbally at walk-up registration of the try-out dates, places and times for each age-level league.
If my child is unable to attend the try-out, will he/she still be permitted to play?
Yes, every child who wishes to play will play regardless of whether they attended the try-out or not, assuming there is space available. Players unable to participate in the try-outs have their names randomly drawn from a hat at the end of the draft meeting and are placed on the next team needing a player.
